Chapter 2 Basic Skills Installing UnionWay System
Before installing the UnionWay system, please make sure that there are enough free space in your hard drive. Different version of UnionWay system has different requirement for hard drive space. Please be reminded that the space available indicated would not be accurate once you have used the Stacker or Double Space utility program, this is especially important for those who are installing additional UnionWay true type fonts.
StdPack 97 includes standard input methods and bitmap font(s). Use the INSTALL program to install all the system files and font(s) to your computer. For CD Version:
The Installation Center dialog box appears:
Type your product ID number (listed at the lower right corner of the CD sleeve) into the ID number columns and select the Full Install button to install all the files. If using Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95, the default destination directory is C:\Program Files\Asian97.
If using Windows 3.x, the default destination directory is C:\ASIAN97.
Click the OK button, the installation program will copy all the files to your hard drive. If you have CJK three languages version, the following message is shown on the screen:
That means the installation program will automatically install the three languages at the same time. If you do not want to install any language, just use the mouse to remove the mark "ü" from that language box. Click the OK button, the installation program will copy all necessary files to your hard drive and then prompt the following dialog box:
The installation program will create the UnionWay Group to place the AsianSuite 97 icon into it, press the OK button, you could get the successful message. For Disk Version:
If using Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95, the default destination directory is C:\Program Files\Asian97.
If using Windows 3.x, the default destination directory is C:\ASIAN97.
Click the OK button to begin the installation and follow the instructions to insert the following disk one by one to complete the process. If you have CJK three languages version, the following message appears:
The installation program will automatically install the three languages at the same time. If you do not want to install any language, just use the mouse to remove the mark from that language box. Click the OK button, the installation program will copy all necessary files to your hard drive and then prompt the following dialog box:
The installation program will create the UnionWay Group to place the AsianSuite 97 icon into it, press the OK button, you should get the successful message. When you start UnionWay AsianSuite 97 (click the AsianSuite 97 icon) first time from UnionWay Group, the Input Product ID dialog box appears:
Please type your product ID number (listed on the back of the AsianSuite 97 system disk # 1) into the ID number columns. Note:
1. Insert the disk # 1 of one kind of font into drive A: (or B:) running under Windows system. 2. Use the File menu of Program Manager (Windows 3.x) or Start button (Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0) to run A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL ), the installation program will install the font file into the C:\UWFONT as the default directory.
Press the OK button to begin the installation and follow the instructions to insert the following disk one by one to complete the process. Each kind of true type font needs to be installed separately. *After installed the UnionWay Asian Suite program successfully, please don't forget to install the Service Pack ( one diskette ) to your computer.
Installing ProPack or SuperPack 97 ProPack or SuperPack 97 includes professional input methods, true type font(s) and FontMaker utility program. Use the INSTALL program to install all the system files and font(s) to your computer. For CD Version:

In Windows 95/NT: Start Windows95, click Start button, select Program, select UnionWay group, then select AsianSuite 97 icon to start UnionWay system. Once it is started, you will see the system tool bar as shown:

Korean System Tool Bar In Windows 3.x: Start Windows 3.x, open the UnionWay group, point to the AsianSuite 97 icon
Moving UnionWay System Tool Bar For the convenience of both Windows 95/NT and Windows 3.x users, UnionWay system tool bar is placed slightly above the bottom of the screen. You may move the tool bar to another position by pointing to its blue border frame, hold down the left mouse button, drag the whole tool bar to the desired position, then release the left mouse button to place it at the new position.
Minimizing UnionWay System Tool Bar
The UnionWay system tool bar can be minimized to the icon by clicking on the
Hidden UnionWay System Tool Bar The UnionWay system tool bar can be hidden by holding down Alt key then press ® key, doing the same sequence again will resume the display. This is very useful for some special situation where you want to hide the UnionWay system tool bar (and its icon), but still getting correct display of CJK characters. When activating this hiding feature will not end the UnionWay system.
To exit the UnionWay system, click
Click OK button and you will exit UnionWay system. The E-mail address of technical support "tech@unionway.com" and the Web Site address "http://www.unionway.com" are both provided in this same dialog box.
Here are quick examples to show you how to use UnionWay system for CJK word processing. The four step guidelines are
We use the WordPad in Windows 95 as an example (equivalent to the Write in Windows 3.x) to show you how to process the CJK text.
For Chinese User: Step 1: Start UnionWay system and WordPad program. Click Start button, select Programs item, and select UnionWay group, then select AsianSuite 97 icon to start UnionWay system. Click Start button again, select Programs item, and select Accessories group, then select WordPad icon to start WordPad program.
Step 2: Select UnionWay Chinese code page and an UnionWay Chinese font in the WordPad. You need click code page button (first one from left on the UnionWay system
tool bar) to set to
Step 3: Select a Chinese input method to input Chinese. After started UnionWay system, the default input method (IME) is English.

For our example, select Now we are ready to input
Press the numeric key 1 or function key F1 will send
Note: If you want to switch back to English input mode, just press Ctrl + Space bar or Alt + ¬ , or click IME button to select English input method. UnionWay Asian system provides Hot-key to quickly switch input method between English and Chinese input methods, see Chapter 4 for the detail.
Step 4: Use the Editing, Typesetting, Printing functions provide by the application program. You may use the File | Save option to save the file. In the Save As dialog box, enter the name "test1" for the file name (first, press Ctrl + Space bar to switch UnionWay system back to English input mode). In our example, the file "test1" will be saved under the "C:\Windows" directory as shown:
Click Save button, and your computer will have a new file "test1". To end this example, we will print our creation. In the WordPad, select File | Print option, click OK button in the Print dialog box, and the printout will show the same words that you entered:
For Japanese User: Step 1: Start UnionWay system and WordPad program. Click Start button, select Programs item, and select UnionWay group, then select ASIANSUITE 97 icon to start UnionWay system. Click Start button again, select Programs item, and select Accessories group, then select WordPad icon to start WordPad program.
Step 2: Select UnionWay Japanese code page and an UnionWay Japanese font in the WordPad. You need click code page button (first one from left on the UnionWay system
tool bar) to set to
Step 3: Select a Japanese input method to input Japanese After started UnionWay system, the default input method (IME) is English
Now we are ready to input Japanese into the WordPad. Type "MIYOKO" as input code through the keyboard, and you will see:
